Day 1
Arrive in Porto. Explore this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city, with its granite buildings and cobbled narrow streets. Dine riverside on the mighty Douro. See Gaia, the centre of the port wine industry.
Day 2
Porto to Arcos, 45 kms
Leave the city streets behind and enter a rural landscape passing through fields and valleys. Overnight in the beautiful and peaceful village of Arcos.
Day 3
Arcos to Ponte de Lima, 54 kms
Today pass through the beautiful town of Barcelos, famous for the legend of the 'Rooster of Barcelos', and its popular market. Travel along asphalt and dirt tracks to reach the village of Balugaes, the site of Portugal's first Marian apparition. Before you know it you will arrive at the Roman Bridge of Ponte de Lima and enter one of Portugal's best preserved medieval towns.
Day 4
Ponte de Lima to Tui, 38 kms
Cross back over the bridge and begin a challenging climb to Alto da Portela. Descend to the small village of Pecene and onto the banks of the Minho River, passing the fortress of Valenca do Minho. Cross the Valenca-Tui International Bridge into Galicia, Spain, and reach the town of Tui, renowned for its cathedral-fortress.
Day 5
Tui to Pontevedra, 52kms
Leave Tui and cycle on to Redondela, passing through O Porrino and Mos, Immerse yourself in the landscape of the Rias Baixas, after climbing two hills to descend to the beautiful town of Pontevedra where you can explore the beautifully preserved historic centre,
Day 6
Pontevedra to Padron, 39 kms
Cycle through the ancient streets of Pontevedra to start the journey to Padron Enjoy a relatively hill-free day in pleasant countryside. Bathe your feet in the hot spring in the centre of Caldas de Reis then climb gradually through a series of hamlets and woodlands, Ascend to the village of Santa Maria and make your way to the medieval town of Padron, believed to be the arrival point of the body of St James when it was bought to Santiago by ship.
Day 7
Padron to Santiago de Compostela, 25 kms
Your final day on your pilgrimage to Santiago! Cycle through a series of Galician hamlets and up to Milladoiro for your first glimpse of Santiago and the cathedral towers. And finally you're there, in the historic centre and the Plaza del Obradoiro, where all pilgrims converge. Soak up the architecture and wonderful atmosphere of this cultural and spiritual UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 8
Arrangements end after breakfast.
We recommend you extend your stay for a night or 2 to explore Santiago. We can also arrange a day trip to Fisterre – the “end of the world”.
